What we have to offer
My research is integrative and incorporates diverse techniques and expertise to answer broad questions. As a result, graduate students in my lab will gain an aptitude for several different fields, including physiology, endocrinology, immunology, and evolutionary biology. Additionally, our placement within the Poultry Science Department provides an opportunity to incorporate an applied aspect to our research. Students graduating from my lab will have a choice of research directions to pursue. The Department of Poultry Science as well as UGA as a whole is an “open-door”, collaborative environment in which students can interact with one another and with other faculty to gain additional expertise and perspectives. Graduate students have the opportunity to attend seminar series and journal clubs each semester as well.
We also have excellent facilities for lab work and animal care, including access to the Poultry Research Complex which contains large, environmentally controlled animal rooms, and 5 large climate-controlled incubators. We have both colony flight cages and breeding cages for zebra finches, and over 100 bluebird nest boxes around campus for field work as well.
